I didn’t intend on telling this story when I started typing my article on making dates more enjoyable today, but I really want to illustrate the point that it’s how we react to certain situations that define our reality.

First off, I have to just put it out there that I’m not a big fan of underwear. I haven’t worn them in over 17 years. So now that that fact has been revealed, can you see where this is going?

Anyhow, I was on a date with a woman and her 2 kids, a 13 y/o daughter and an 8 y/o son. We were at the beach and we were playing in the sand. Her daughter tried to tackle me and I spun around and instead, dropped her in the sand. When I did that, my jeans split from my knee to the zipper. Don’t ask me how, they just did. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiipppp! lol

So there I am, pretty much exposed to the world. I just started laughing. Not an embarrassed laugh, but a genuine I-think-this-is-funny laugh. Once I started laughing, they started laughing too. And because I was cool with, they were too. For the next hour and a half I covered the hole by holding a newspaper in front of it while we went through a couple of subway trains and walked a couple of miles past people to get back to her car. Eventually I found a shirt someone had tied to a tree and tied it around my waist.

Instead of freaking out and ending the date on a bad note, with everyone stressed out and disappointed, we all laughed it off, relaxed as could be and a good time was had by all. Needless to say, my date was very impressed by my cool nature.
